B+ RACING DRIVERS AL CARTER AND HUGH PLUMB KEEP A POSITIVE ATTITUDE AFTER B+ FOUNDATION HEROES 200 FINISH LAST SATURDAY! Wilmington, Delaware, July 27, 2011 - For B+ Racing drivers Al Carter and Hugh Plumb the dream week started on Tuesday night in Unionville with a successful fundraiser to benefit The B+ Foundation and continued until late Saturday afternoon and two hours of racing at New Jersey Motorsports Park in The B+ Foundation Heroes 200. With 32 minutes remaining in the B+ Foundation Heroes 200, ninth round of the 2011 Continental Sports Car Challenge race, Hugh Plumb was leading the race and was well on his way to the first win of the year for the 45 car. But a battery problem sent the No. 45 Fall-Line BMW M3 to the garage area for a battery change. The BePositive.org car went from 1st to 40th in the race and when Hugh Plumb returned to the track he was six laps down and the B+ Racing drivers had to settle with a disappointing 15th place finish in the GS class. Since they took the track on Thursday, The 45 Fall-Line Motorsports BMW M3 was one of the fastest cars all day. Al Carter qualified the car on Saturday morning but was disappointed by his 11th place effort. He also knew that the car was set up for race conditions and not for a short qualifying run. Al Carter was able to move from 11th to 5th place during his stint before he handed the wheel to his co-driver Hugh Plumb. The Fall-Line Motorsports team had two very fast pit stops and they beat some of the top contenders in the pits both times. Plumb did an excellent job and was able to move to the top of the ranking and led 45 laps. 35 minutes before the checkered flag, it looked as if The B+ Foundation car was unbeatable and that its drivers, Al Carter and Hugh Plumb, were ready to drink the Champagne and enjoy their first victory of the year when the battery started to fail. The 45 car that had been perfect until that point started to show some engine misfiring problems which allowed the 2nd place car driven by Billy Johnson to catch Plumb. Then suddenly Plumb was caught up in the middle of a turn by the lack of ABS and power steering systems due to the lack of power coming from the battery. Hugh finally was forced to stop the car on track and was towed to the paddock. The car restarted after a battery change and Plumb returned to the track and finished 15th in class. All the events organized to benefit The B+ Foundation that led to the New Jersey race were amazing. Spending great moments with the children off and at the track was very inspirational for Plumb and Carter. Despite their misfortune in the race, they remain positive and try to keep a smile on their face knowing that inside themselves, their “victory day” in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge will be there sooner rather than later. 200 guests were invited by The B+ Foundation including about 50 B+ heroes, children who have battled cancer or who are battling cancer, were with The B+ Racing team. Some of the kids enjoyed pace car rides around the New Jersey track driven by Hugh and Al before the race, some played with a simulator setup in The B+ Foundation hospitality, some toured the Fall-Line Motorsports transporter and most of them were able to spend a thrilling moment with Al Carter and Hugh Plumb in the pits during the Fan Walk right before The B+ Foundation Heroes 200. The pinnacle moment of race day was when The B+ Heroes were guests of Grand-Am Race Director, Mark Raffauf, at the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge driver’s meeting. The B+ Heroes were introduced to the B+ Foundation Heroes 200 drivers and the kids received a standing ovation from all drivers and team owners in attendance at the meeting. The green flag of the race was waved by Drew Koenig, a 7 year old cancer survivor, whose father Andrew won the B+ Racing Facebook contest. A couple of years ago, before Drew was diagnosed with childhood cancer he was telling his parents he wanted to be a race car driver so he was very excited to wave the green flag. The checkered flag of the B+ Foundation Heroes 200 was waved by Hugh Plumb’s mom, Donnan but even if her younger son, Matt Plumb finished 5th in the race, Donnan Sharp admitted that she would have loved to see Hugh cross the finish line first. The B+ Foundation Heroes 200 will be telecast on Speed, Saturday July 30 at 3:00 PM ET. The next race is scheduled for September 16-17, the EMCO Gears Classic at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. Stay tuned at www.facebook.com/bpositiveracing and www.Bepositiveracing.com
