B+ RACING, AL CARTER AND HUGH PLUMB VIRGINA RACE REVIEW
Wilmington, Delaware (May 17, 2011) – After scoring the pole position for the Bosch Engineering 200, 4th round of the 2011 Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, Al Carter, co-driving the No. 45 BePositive.org / Fall-Line Motorsports BMW, led the first 9 laps of the race before an electronic problem forced the driver from Delaware to stop on the track. The car was towed to the pits before the electronic problem was diagnosed. Hugh Plumb took over for the rest of the race but the BePositive.org BMW could not do better than 20th in the GS class.
This result is a disappointment for the B+ Racing team and the two drivers, Al Carter and Hugh Plumb, who had high expectations for an anticipated podium finish. Entering the VIR race the No. 45 BePositive.org Racing Fall-Line Motorsports team was ranked 4th in the team point standings but dropped to 7th after the VIR race.
Following a visit to Durham Duke University Children’s Hospital on Wednesday afternoon, the race week started well for Al Carter and Hugh Plumb. Since the beginning of the promoter test day on Thursday, the No 45 BePositive.org BMW was competitive right out of the transporter. Carter, Plumb and the Fall-Line Motorsports engineers worked hard during practice Friday to find the best setup for qualifying. On Friday afternoon, Al Carter was able to work his magic and had a near perfect qualifying lap that rewarded him with his first ever Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge pole position. Carter has been on top of his game since the first 2011 race at Daytona where he had the second fastest time in qualifying and the third qualifying time at Barber.
The Bosch Engineering 200 was supposed to consolidate the No. 45 BePositive.org Fall-Line Motorsports ranking but unfortunately the outcome of the race was different. The competitiveness level of the 2011 Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge season is very high and mistakes are not welcomed if you want to win the title. Carter and Plumb will have six more races to score high finishes and it is still possible for Carter and Plumb to finish on the podium of the championship.
The next event is scheduled for Saturday, May 28 at Lime Rock Park, Connecticut. The Bosch Engineering 200 event will be telecast on Speed, May 22 at 1:00 PM ET. The B+ Foundation’s “Fighting Childhood Cancer” Tour will make a stop at the Connecticut Children’s Hospital in Hartford on Thursday, May 26. Al Carter and Hugh Plumb will meet children with cancer at the outpatient clinic and will sign autographs at 1:00 PM.
