The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation honors the memory of Andrew McDonough, a 14-year-old athlete and ‘A’ student from Wilmington, Delaware. Andrew went from playing four soccer games on a Saturday in January 2007 to cardiac arrest and a diagnosis of leukemia and sepsis just 48 hours later. Andrew’s blood type and the family’s motto was, and continues to be, “B+” … “Be Positive”. Andrew’s valiant journey over his 167 days in the hospital was chronicled in newspapers, television and on his website where he and his family received visits from over 2 million "friends" who left messages of prayer, hope, consolation, and stories about their friend Andrew. The overall goal of the B+ Foundation is to “Do Good”. With your help, we will continue to achieve the specific objectives. Keep the “B+” message alive through outreach efforts and talks. Share the lessons Andrew taught us, including: have fun, have faith in God, keep our lives in perspective, appreciate our blessings, and make time for our loved ones. Provide financial assistance to families of critically ill children. We have awarded over $400,000 to hundreds of families from around the country in their time of greatest need. Sponsor research to find cures for pediatric cancers and advancements in chemotherapy. In 2009, a grant for $250,000 was presented to the Nemours Center for Childhood Cancer Research. In 2011, The B+ Foundation will award another grant of $250,000.
