HUGH PLUMB RACING CLOSE TO HOME FOR NEW JERSEY MOTORSPORTS PARK DEBUT
Millville, NJ (30 August, 2008)— One might expect
a race driver to make the most of a weekend away from
the track with some time relaxing at home, but instead,
fitness enthusiast Hugh Plumb had other plans as he
ran nearly a full marathon distance last weekend in
advance of the Supercar Life 250 event at New Jersey
Motorsports Park for round eight of the Grand-Am KONI
Challenge season.
Plumb, who co-drives the No. 60 Sunset Hills Vineyard
Ford Mustang with Mike Canney, took on a roster of
ten new teammates last weekend, as he participated
in the Nike Hood to Coast event, billed as the longest
relay race in the world.
Plumb, who works endlessly to up his fitness game,
held up his end of the deal with his teammates, running
over 24 miles as part of his team’s trek from
Mt. Hood to the coast of the Pacific Ocean. The race
effort netted the team 109th out of over 1,000 other
teams, as the ten-member team averaged mile splits
of 7 minutes, 32 seconds.
“I’m a very competitive person so you are
always hoping to win of course, but it was our first
time participating in this event as a team, so we were
pretty pleased with the results,” said Plumb. “We
had a lot of fun out there, but everyone stepped it
up come race time. The event also raised over a quarter
million dollars for cancer research so that was a great
bonus for a really big race like this.”
The New Jersey event is one that Plumb has been looking
forward to for a long time, given that he calls Unionville,
Pennsylvania home, just an hour and a half down the
road. He’s been getting familiar with the facility
as part of his work with Supercar Life, which gives
everyday enthusiasts the chance behind the wheel of
super car exotic machinery under the guidance and watchful
eyes of pros like Plumb on the 2.25-mile 14 turn facility.
“It is a brand-new track so of course everything
is freshly built, so hopefully it’s a good weekend
for everyone,” said Plumb. “We’d
like to get back on the right path in the points with
the Sunset Hills Vineyard Mustang because we’ve
been quick but just have had some tough races that
we need to overcome. Being so close to home, it’s
great to just hop in the car and head to the track
like we can here. Hopefully we can head home with some
new trophies on Sunday."
