Hugh Plumb Profile

Plumb has been actively competing in several series including the Rolex Grand American Series, Continental Sports Car Tire Challenge and the American Le Mans Series. From 1998 to 2001 he ran in the SPEED World Challenge Series where was Rookie of the Year, was third in the Drivers Championship, helped collect two manufacturers championships, collected four Wins, 15 Podium finishes and 30 top ten finishes. In 2006 he helped to bring home 1st Place in the Manufacturer Championship for Acura. He has finished second in the Rolex Series Championship, and second in the KONI Challenge Championship. He also finished second in the 2002 12 hrs of Sebring. Since 2006, Plumb has accumulated 20 podium finishes.

Raised in an equestrian family, Hugh Plumb learned about discipline at an early age. Both parents were Olympians-mother in the 1968, and his father a record setting seven.

Although he raced motorcycles and then cars against his parent's wishes, Hugh credits his parents for instilling the competitive spirit that burns brightly inside him.

“I grew up in a very sport oriented family," said Hugh. " I loved competition, and by the age of eleven, I pretty much knew that one horsepower was not enough for me.”

Dirt bikes led to road race bikes and championships in both Super Sport and Super Bike as Hugh scored 25 wins in his first three seasons. Sports car racing would have to wait until after college. Two years at the University of Delaware and then two more at New England College resulted in a degree in History and a business minor, but Hugh's business was to get to the race track. With two wins and nine podium finishes in thirteen 1996 Skip Barber Racing Series races Hugh was the Rookie of the Year runner-up. The next year that saw him buy his first race car and enter the SCCA World Challenge Championship where he spent the next four seasons.

“I bought a BMW in 1998 looking to do a few World Challenge races and won my third race. After that year I knew I did not want to run my own team, but that I wanted to stay in World Challenge. I moved on to the Realtime Racing (Team) in 1999 and even with the change from rear wheel to a front wheel drive Acura, I was competitive.”
